Softbank Cancels Investment in Indonesia’s New Capital City Development Project

Jakarta, warta9.com – As the construction of the new State Capital (NSC) begins in Penajam Paser Utara (PPU) Regency, East Kalimantan, it seems that “not yet going smoothly”. The reason is that the prospective Japanese investor suddenly withdrew from the NSC funding project.

Previously, the prospective investor engaged in a venture capital company, Softbank, planned to invest 100 billion US dollars or the equivalent of Rp. 1.432 trillion. But the plan had to run aground.

Reporting from Bloomberg, on Saturday (12/3/2022), the news of Softbank’s withdrawal from funding the NSC/IKN project, was revealed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. “There are no more stories about Masayoshi. already out (of IKN funding),” said Luhut.

However, Luhut did not explain the reason for Softbank canceling the investment funding in the NSC.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Softbank Group confirmed that it had canceled its plan to invest in the IKN Nusantara development project in Indonesia. However, Softbank will continue to invest in Indonesia through companies in the Vision Fund portfolio. (**)
