Warta9.com – French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron beat his far-right rival Marine Le Pen in the second round of the French presidential election to secure another five years of leading Europe’s second economy.
Reported from Le Monde, Monday (25/4/2022), Emmanuel Macron won 58.54 percent while his competitor Mrine Le Pen won 41.46 percent.
Emmanuel Macron is the first president to be re-elected since Jacques Chirac 20 years ago.
This second win is no small feat in a country that has recently developed an appetite for kicking incumbents at the first opportunity.
From the margin of the vote, Macron’s projected margin of victory in the end exceeded the estimates of most pollsters.
According to France24, Sunday’s rematch yielded a much closer result than 2017, when the political rookie took the day with 66 percent of the vote. By his third attempt, Le Pen had moved a few steps closer to the Lysée Palace. (**)
